For 35 years, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has maintained having its design and structure untouched. It's no surprise then that a new report suggests that the G-Class will undergo a heavy facelift in 2017, to keep touch with the modern era.

So far, Mercedes' goals for the G-Glass is to improve its front suspension, increase width for stability as well as to accentuate interior space. The G-Class falls into the same situation as the Porsche 911, in order to keep fans and buyers happy, the biggest challenge they face is to stick with the 35 year old design whilst attempting to modernise it too. According to sources, the interior will keep its boxy-shape and near-vertical windscreen.

For the interior, Mercedes will most probably update the interior and increase practicality within the vehicle. New technology will be on hand (probably inspired by the S-Class) such as LED lights and safety systems found in most Merc's these days. Engine's will consist of a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol and diesel engines which will product around 300-360 horsepower. We can also expect AMG variants too.

The funny thing is that I've read the opposite, that the G-wagen will look iconically boxy but get updated heavily underneath to meet with customer demands.

"Improve front suspension" translates to "annihilate off-road capability."
